MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB)- The family of an 88-year-old man killed by a hit-and-run driver told WALB community interest in solving the case is leading to a growing reward fund.
The reward money for information leading to the person responsible for hitting and killing Amos Anderson now stands at a total of $1,200.
A second anonymous donor contributed $200 since last week to the newly announced $1,000 fund. Anderson’s family just announced July 14 that a single anonymous donor started the fund with an initial $1,000-dollar donation.
If any community member wishes to donate to the award fund, you can email [email protected] for more information.
Sunday marked 10 months since the 88-year-old’s death in front of his home along Mount Olive Rd. near Pelham.
On September 20, 2024, Anderson had been doing yard in front of his home when a vehicle struck him, knocking him into a ditch where he was discovered dead.
Investigators said they believe the responsible driver had been traveling east on Mount Olive Rd. at the time Anderson was struck, but turned around and left the scene headed west after the deadly collision.
Forensic analysis of evidence revealed the vehicle involved to be medium metallic gray in color, likely with damage to the front passenger side headlight area.
Investigators initially believed the vehicle could be a late 90s Chevrolet Silverado or a 90s Ford make of either a Ranger, Bronco, or Explorer. However, they also don’t rule out the following vehicles as having been driven by the perpetrator:
- 1998-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix
- 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue
- 2004 Chevrolet Malibu
- 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
- 1998-2007 Chevrolet Silverado
- 1998-2007 GMC Sierra
The day the family buried Anderson, he and his wife Mary had planned to have been celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary.
The family told WALB they’re grateful for the community’s generous donations as they support the pursuit of finding justice for Anderson.
