CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) - Cairo Police Department (CPD) has arrested a suspect connected to multiple entering auto incidents following an early morning investigation on April 7, 2026.

According to CPD, officers were first dispatched around 4:00 a.m. to the 1300 block of 1st Avenue Southwest after reports of a suspicious individual walking through yards and looking into parked vehicles. Patrol units canvassed the area and reviewed home surveillance footage, obtaining a description of the suspect.

About an hour later, officers responded to another call on 10th Street Southwest involving a subject matching that description. When officers arrived, the individual fled on foot but was quickly apprehended after a short chase, officials say.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Tyran Brooker, who was transported to the Grady County Detention Center. Authorities say Brooker has active probation warrants out of Thomas County and is also wanted in connection with at least three shoplifting cases in Cairo.

According to the release, a police report from over the past three weeks, ten entering auto cases have been reported in the city. At the time of his arrest, officers recovered multiple bank cards, identification cards, and Social Security cards belonging to at least two victims.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Cairo Police Department at 229-378-3096.
