ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — The City of Albany is taking steps to ensure safer traffic speeds within its neighborhoods.

On Sept. 22, the city commission voted to replace three rubber speed tables with 28 new cement ones throughout the city. This is a part of a project that started in August of 2023.

The speed tables will be installed at the following locations:

• 2 tables in the 1500 block of Edgerly Avenue
• 2 tables in the 1900 block of North Hilltop Drive
• 3 tables in the 800 block of 16th Avenue
• 2 tables in the 2200 block of Homewood Drive
• 5 tables in Village Street from Clark Avenue to East Society Avenue
• 6 tables in the 400-800 blocks of Hobson Street
• 3 tables in the 1600 block of Lynwood Lane
• 3 tables in the 500 block of North Audubon Drive
• 2 tables in the 200 block of Garden Hill Drive

According to Joseph Threadcraft, president of Threadcraft Engineering, the first step is to request a traffic study from city engineering.

The results from that study are then analyzed based on the average speed of the 85th percentile of travelers along the road.
