ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — What sounded like fireworks to some Albany neighbors Sunday night (Sept. 27) turned out to be gunfire, with one bullet tearing through a home and entering a 13-year-old’s bedroom.

According to an Albany Police Department incident report, officers responded Sunday night to a home on Rodnor Forest Lane. The homeowner told investigators a bullet went through a window and wall before entering the area where her son was lying down in his bedroom.

No injuries were reported.

The boy’s mother gave WALB a photo showing the bullet hole.

A 70-year-old neighbor who lives on a nearby street said the normally quiet neighborhood has not experienced problems like this before.

“It’s kind of scary... It always sounds like firecrackers,” the neighbor said. “We’ve never had issues here. I can leave things in my backyard and go on about my day.”

Another neighbor told WALB they found two shell casings in their driveway after hearing the shots. The debris has been cleared as police investigate.

“I didn’t see anybody... I heard two pops, and then I went back in my house,” the neighbor said.

WALB spoke with several neighbors who said they did not see anyone suspicious around the time of the gunfire. Some residents said they have previously heard what sounded like fireworks or gunshots coming from the wooded area near the neighborhood.

Police have not identified any suspects in the case at this time.
