TURNER COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — District Attorney Patrick Warren said the 2002 Wideman family murder case will likely need to be reindicted at a later date.

Warren said the case was indicted before he became district attorney.

“The Wideman case was indicted before I became district attorney,” Warren said. “I have met with the victims’ family and explained that the case will likely need to be reindicted at a later date.”

Jason Michael Walker was indicted in 2020 in connection with the 2002 deaths of Thomas “Tommy Joe”, 51, Deborah, 48, and Melissa Wideman, 20, in Rebecca, Ga. Walker is also accused in the death of Melissa’s unborn child. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined Walker was the father of the unborn child. She was around eight months pregnant at the time of her death.

The family was found when firefighters were called out to a house fire on GA Highway 112 East in Rebecca. The medical examiner determined the family had been shot before the fire was started.
