Description
GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Grady County Sheriff’s office released a Facebook post to remind the public that deer are on the move, and the sheriff’s office has been responding to an increased number of vehicle accidents involving deer across the county.
Officials said that in the past 24 hours, there have been three separate deer-related incidents in the 2000 block of Highway 179 North alone.
Grady County Sheriff Earl Prince offered the following safety tips to help reduce the risk of deer-related accidents:
- Slow down, especially in rural areas and posted deer crossing zones
- Be extra cautious during dawn and dusk, when deer are most active
- Scan both sides of the roadway—deer can appear suddenly
- If you see one deer, expect others nearby
- Use high beams when safe to increase visibility
- Avoid swerving sharply; braking firmly and staying in your lane is usually safer
- Always wear your seatbelt
Additional reminders:
- Fall and cooler weather increase deer movement
- Deer-related crashes can cause serious injuries and vehicle damage
- If you are involved in a collision, report it promptly so deputies can assist and ensure roadway safety
Officials said that your awareness and caution can help prevent injuries and save lives.
