WILCOX COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Authorities are clarifying new information regarding a reported threat involving a student and Wilcox County Schools.

Officials confirm that the individual identified in a tip received was not a student within the Wilcox County School System. The student is enrolled in the Pulaski County School System. However, authorities say the student is a resident of Wilcox County, which is why Wilcox County citizens, schools, and law enforcement agencies were notified.

According to the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office, information about the potential threat was received from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) earlier Wednesday. As a precaution, Wilcox County School administrators were contacted and emergency protocols were initiated.

Deputies took the student into custody before the individual could reach any school campus. Officials emphasize that there are no current threats to Wilcox County Schools at this time.

Wilcox County authorities coordinated with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and other local and state agencies to ensure the safety of students in both school systems. Officials say appropriate actions were taken by Pulaski County authorities following the investigation.

Law enforcement leaders stress that student safety remains their top priority and that any threats involving schools are handled with the utmost urgency.
