Description
AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) - 26-year-old Tyrone Smith Jr, a man accused of killing 23-year-old Delquan Harris in December of 2024 is eligible for bond.
The victim’s mother Demetria Wiggins’s worst nightmare became a reality when she found out that the man accused of shooting her son is eligible for a bond and she says three months in jail for her son’s life is not enough time.
“Never in my life could I have seen anything like this for my child,” Wiggins said.
Three days before Christmas in 2024, Harris was shot to death multiple times. Police arrested Smith for his alleged connection to Harris’s death and he’s been in jail since. Now that a judge has signed a bond order for Smith, freedom is closer than the Wiggins family is comfortable with.
“That literally broke my heart all over again.”
Lewis Lamb, The Southwestern Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney, could not comment on the granted bond motion because this is an active case.
Smith’s bond is set at $100,000 and some of the conditions include Harris remaining on house arrest, having no contact with the victim’s family, or possessing a firearm.
“I don’t think he should be eligible for a bond. [Smith] gets to go home and eat a home-cooked meal, my child can’t eat a home-cooked meal. My child can’t do that. That bothers me,” Wiggins said.
