WASHINGTON (TNND) — Migrants who were granted temporary legal status by using the Biden-era CBP One app are now being told to leave the country "immediately" by the Department of Homeland Security and having their parole protections revoked.
Since January 2023, around 985,000 people have used the app to remain in the United States for two years with authorization to work under a presidential authority called parole.
“The Biden Administration abused the parole authority to allow millions of illegal aliens into the U.S. which further fueled the worst border crisis in U.S. history. Under federal law, Secretary [Kristi] Noem — in support of the President — has full authority to revoke parole. Canceling these paroles is a promise kept to the American people to secure our borders and protect national security,” DHS said in a statement obtained by The Hill.
Authorities confirmed notices were sent to migrants who entered the country through the CBP One app that their parole status was being terminated in 7 days.
DHS gave more than half a million Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans until April 24 to self deport or face arrest.
President Donald Trump delivered a message in March telling those who entered the U.S. illegally: "Leave now using the CBP Home app—or be removed under tough enforcement."
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem warned those in the country illegally that her agency would track them down if they refused to self-deport.
“The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream,” she added. “If they don’t, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return.”
Homeland Security said Monday that Biden’s use of parole authority — more than any president since it was created in 1952 — “further fueled the worst border crisis in U.S. history.”
