RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ga. — On Friday, Jan. 30, the Randolph County community came together for a “Celebration of Life Program” and balloon release to honor three family members killed in a suspected DUI crash.

The program featured remarks from Dr. Tangela Madge and Rev. David Hamm, along with shared memories and presentations from those who knew Bernerdine Spann (32) and her two children, Ja’Leah Spann (13) and Jaxton Spann (7).

The three family members were killed on Jan. 14 when a Hyundai Tucson driven by Sherita Goddard (41) struck their Honda Accord on US-82 in Lee County, authorities said. Goddard’s daughter, who was a passenger in her vehicle, was also injured in the crash.

Goddard was arrested in connection with the crash and is charged with:

• Three counts of first-degree homicide by vehicle
• Endangering a child by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Felony second-degree cruelty to children
• Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Driving on the wrong side of a roadway
• Having an open container in the vehicle

She has since bonded out of the Lee County jail.
