VIDALIA, Ga. (WTOC) - UPDATE 9:30 P.M.: At the request of the Vidalia Police Department, GBI Agents are investigating a shooting involving an officer in Vidalia.
One man was shot during the incident. No officers were injured.
Also according to the GBI, ‘Preliminary information indicates that at about 1:30 p.m., on October 19, 2025, two Vidalia Police Department Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of MLK Jr. Boulevard and Epstein Street in Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia. The officers determined that the passenger of the vehicle, Travis Kelly Parrish, age 47, of Lyons, GA, had an outstanding warrant. When officers attempted to arrest Parrish, one of the officers deployed a Taser and then shot at Parrish, hitting him.’
Parrish was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound and remains in critical condition.
Once the GBI completes its independent investigation, the case will be turned over to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.

Per our earlier reporting, the City of Vidalia, Georgia Police Department is warning the public to avoid the area of MLK Drive and Epstein Street due to a shooting involving an officer.
“Please avoid the area while the investigation is underway. More information will be released as the investigation progresses,” wrote the The City of Vidalia, Georgia Police Department.
They say the Vidalia Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations are currently on scene.
We have reached out to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, the Vidalia Police Department and the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office for further details on the nature of the officer’s involvement.
The Vidalia Police Department wrote, “We ask the public to avoid the area while the investigation is underway. We also ask the community to keep the subject and the officer involved in their thoughts and prayers as we work in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.”
The GBI confirmed they have been requested to investigate.
