VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Valdosta State University’s (VSU) undergraduate commencement ceremony on Dec. 13, 2025, was overshadowed for one group.

A TikTok video shows a man who appears to be a VSU a police officer approaching members of the Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, who are dressed in their regalia performing a step in celebration after walking across the stage.

At that time, VSU officials stated that they were aware of the video and would be reviewing their processes to help ensure future celebrations go smoothly. Ahead of undergraduate ceremonies on May 9, WALB followed up with the university.

“As part of VSU’s Fall Commencement debrief, we discussed the importance of good campus communication and ensuring organizations have a place to celebrate. Greek Life and University Police have worked together to find places for post-ceremony events following Spring Commencement on May 9.”

The university said that the Kappa Upsilon Chapter was approved for a space in front of Bailey Science Center.

WALB reached out to the chapter, which chose not comment. We also reached out to the National Pan-Hellenic Council at VSU for a statement, but we did not receive a response.
