Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The burn ban for most Southwest Georgia counties was lifted on Tuesday, May 5. The original ban for 91 Georgia counties was reduced to 17 counties.
The following counties remain under a burn ban until May 22 or until further notice, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC): Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Berrien, Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Echols, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Ware and Wayne.

Crews continue to push back the Pineland Road Fire and the Highway 82 fire. The Pineland Road fire is reportedly at 65% containment. 32,575 acers have burned in that fire, officials said.
The Highway 82 Fire is at 85% containment, GFC said. 22,471 acers have burned in that fire.
GFC Director Johnny Sabo said recent rainfall is helping with containment efforts.
“The area now under a burn ban still has two large fires that need constant monitoring and mop-up to reduce the chance of reburn, along with significantly increased fuel loads from Hurricane Helene” Sabo added.
GFC asked residents not under a burn ban to check their local ordinances before burning. Questions can be directed to Georgia Forestry Commission county offices or the county Fire Marshal.
