VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - The city of Valdosta has received $98,250 through the Georgia Rivers Grant Program to fund new trash-catching equipment on local waterways.
The grant is funding a new debris interceptor on Sugar Creek, replacing an older system behind Salty Snapper, and a DDS roadside trash catcher on Lakeland Avenue.
City leaders said the systems are designed to catch trash before it reaches area streams. The new installations bring the total number of interceptors protecting local waterways to nine.
Officials said the equipment is part of a long-term plan to improve stormwater control and protect local waterways.
