CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - Police are investigating an early morning shooting that left one man injured in Cordele Friday, March 6.

According to the Cordele Police Department (CPD), officers responded just before 3 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1500 block of East 16th Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately provided emergency first aid until Crisp County EMS arrived.

The victim was then transported to Crisp Regional Hospital for further medical treatment. Authorities say no other injuries were reported.

According to CPD’S Facebook page, investigators say they are currently collecting evidence and pursuing leads as they work to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, Crisp County EMS, and the Cordele Fire Department assisted with the response.

CPD detectives said an active investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
