VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - Valdosta’s fire chief, who has served with the Valdosta Fire Department for 30 years, is retiring, the city announced.
Fire Chief Brian Boutwell is set to retire on November 30.
In a Tuesday statement, the city thanked Boutwell for his time with the fire department.
“Chief Boutwell has served the department with professionalism and dedication, and the City extends its appreciation for his years of service to the community,” the statement read.
Valdosta Mayor Scott James Matheson shared his thanks for Boutwell’s years of service.
“Valdosta has been truly blessed with a fire department led by one of the finest,” he said. “Chief Boutwell took this department to new heights, strengthening not only operations but the spirit of the service that defines the VFD.”
More news out of South Georgia:
“I will miss Chief Boutwell terribly, not just for his leadership, but for the genuine heart he brought to this community every single day,” Mayor Matheson continued.
Deputy Fire Chief Marcus Haynes will assume the role of Acting Fire Chief starting December 1.
“As the VFD enters this transition, the department remains well positioned for continued momentum, growth and excellence,” the statement said.
