RAY CITY, Ga. (WALB) — A man is facing felony charges in the Aug. 11 shooting of a pet pig on Bryant Lane, according to the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office.

According to police, on Aug. 11, deputies located the pig behind a residence. The pet pig suffered a gunshot wound and other injuries.

Further investigation revealed that one of the involved individuals, identified as John Williamson, was a convicted felon and prohibited by law from possessing a firearm.

On Monday, Aug. 17, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Bryant Lane. Police said during the search, marijuana was recovered; however, the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was not located at the residence.

According to police, investigators found the firearm, which was later turned over to the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office.

Following the investigation, warrants were obtained for John Williamson for the following offenses:

• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
• Possession of marijuana
• Aggravated cruelty to animals
• Reckless conduct

The investigation remains active, and additional charges are pending.
