VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — A 24-year-old man died after being shot at an apartment complex in Valdosta on Monday evening, according to the Valdosta Police Department.

Police said a citizen called 911 at 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 17 to report a shooting at Ashton Park Apartments in the 1300 block of River Street.

Officers arrived to find a citizen providing first aid to the victim, who had a gunshot wound to his torso, police said.

Officers took over providing aid until EMS arrived and transported the man to the hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to police.

Police said detectives and crime scene personnel are continuing to process evidence and investigate the incident.

According to police, the investigation has revealed the shooting was an isolated incident, and detectives have identified a possible person of interest.
