WASHINGTON (7News) — An air traffic controller at Reagan National Airport (DCA) instructed a United Airlines pilot to perform a "go-around" Thursday morning "due to an unstable approach," marking the second such maneuver at the airport this week, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement.

United Flight 1077, arriving at DCA from Chicago, Illinois, was directed to abort its landing and ascend again for another approach around 9:10 a.m. local time. The FAA said no other aircraft were involved.
The FAA said a go-around is a safe routine maneuver in which the airplane ascended again to make another approach to land.
"It discontinues the landing approach and returns the aircraft to an altitude and configuration to safely make another approach. The pilot and the air traffic controller are in full command of the situation," the agency added.
This comes just days after an American Airlines pilot at DCA was also told to perform a go-around when another plane was preparing for takeoff on the same runway, according to a statement from the FAA.
