Chabba, a regional vice president for Aramark, was working with a vendor on FSU’s campus when a gunman opened fire shortly before noon on April 17. He was killed alongside dining services employee Robert Morales. Six other victims were wounded.

Chabba is survived by his wife and two children. His family is being represented by attorneys Bakari Sellers and Jim Bannister.

During Chabba’s memorial service, the focus was on celebrating his life, but also the question of why this happened to such a beloved community member. Attendees at the service included people from Florida State University.

The Strom Law Firm released the following statement following the service:

“Today as Tiru Chabba was laid to rest, he was celebrated as a loving husband, a doting father of two young children, a beloved son, brother and friend whose life was tragically cut short. That’s how he lived and that’s how he will be remembered.

There are so many questions surrounding this tragic event. For now, his family is heartbroken and deeply grieving this unimaginable loss and they ask that for this moment they be allowed the privacy and space to mourn and process their loss in peace.

The family is grateful for the outpouring of support they’ve received from their community including Tiru’s friends and colleagues from Aramark, whose kindness and presence have meant so much to the family during this difficult time. We ask that compassion and respect continue to guide all coverage and conversations moving forward.”
