ASHBURN, Ga. (WALB) — Witnesses are raising questions about an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday, March 4, that left one man dead in Ashburn. Neighbors who say they watched the chaos unfold just outside their homes spoke out Thursday, March 5.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said the incident began as a traffic stop when an Ashburn police officer pulled over a vehicle with two children standing inside, unsecured in child restraint seats.

Investigators said one of the two men in the car, the driver, tried to run away. The driver was identified as 25-year-old Kabrion Young of Cordele. According to the GBI, Young ran from the Ashburn officer, got into a fight and an officer used a taser on him before taking him into custody.

However, one witness said that what they heard did not sound like a taser being used.

“It sounded like a firecracker, like ‘BAP,’ and that’s not a taser. A taser doesn’t make any noise. It just grabs you. And you could tell when you’re tased because [Young] would’ve been hollering, and you could see a wire, but you couldn’t see any of that,” the witness said.

Young was later arrested by Ashburn police and booked into the Turner County Jail. There were three additional passengers in the vehicle — one adult and two children — who were not injured during the incident, according to investigators.

According to the GBI, officers then turned their attention to the passenger, identified as 25-year-old Larunce Glee of Cordele. Investigators said officers asked Glee to step out of the car and that he began fighting with officers.

The GBI said shots were fired when Glee attempted to remove a gun from his waistband. Neighbors reported hearing multiple shots, saying they saw officers fire.

“I heard the two shots, and I ran outside, and when I ran outside, I saw the tall cop shoot that guy, that was the third shot,” one witness said.

Glee was taken to Tift Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Neighbors said they are heartbroken for Glee’s family.

“It’s sad. This boy mama has to bury him. It’s sad, it’s another young man life gone. He wasn’t but 25,” a witness said.

Witnesses also said they were worried about the children who were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

“The girl and her babies in there, the bullet could’ve accidentally shot one of them kids,” the witness said.

WALB reached out to the GBI with additional questions, including whether a gun was recovered at the scene, how many shots were fired, how many times Glee was hit and where he was shot. A GBI spokesperson said more information will be released at a later time because the investigation is still active and ongoing.
