LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A former Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office captain was recognized on Friday, Feb. 21.

According to the sheriff’s office, Sheriff Ashley Paulk held a ceremony at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Annex to officially rename the Training Complex to Captain Samuel P. Temples Training Complex.

Family and friends gathered to share stories they had with Temples and what he meant to everyone he interacted with.

The sheriff’s office said Temples followed in his father’s footsteps when deciding to serve his community through law enforcement.

“Captain Temples dedicated thirty-six years to serving Lowndes County at the Sheriff’s Office, in various positions beginning in 1978 as a Dispatcher/Jailor, quickly being promoted in 1979 to Deputy Sheriff, in 1985 he was promoted to Sergeant- Patrol Division, continuing his leadership abilities was promoted to Lieutenant-Patrol Division in 1987, then earned to the rank of Captain-Patrol Division in 2001, before transferring in 2007 as Captain-Special Operations where he remained until unexpected death in February, 2014.”

The sheriff’s office said Captain Temples is missed dearly and his legacy lives on in the lives he touched.
