TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The 20-year-old Florida State student accused of firing shots on the university’s campus last week was shot once in the jaw by FSU Police during the incident, a Tallahassee Police spokesperson confirmed late Wednesday.

Phoenix Ikner is accused of shooting on FSU’s campus last Thursday, killing two and leaving six others injured, including himself.

FSU Police Chief Jason Trumbower said during an FSU Board of Trustees’ meeting Tuesday that immediately at noon, the day of the shooting, the university’s police officers neutralized the suspect.

The following day after the campus shooting, TPD shared a timeline of events, revealing authorities responded to the shooting just two minutes after reports of an active shooter on campus.

Earlier this week, five patients were discharged from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, a TMH spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. The hospital would not confirm whether or not the sixth patient, who remains hospitalized in good condition, was the gunman.

TPD’s Police Chief Lawrence Revell said the 20-year-old faces charges up to first-degree murder when he is well enough to be released.

Ikner was also identified as the stepson of a Leon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jessica Ikner, an LCSO spokesperson confirmed Friday.

Since then, the LCSO deputy has stepped away from her duties as a school resource officer at Raa Middle School for an “indefinite” period, the sheriff’s office spokesperson said.

WCTV obtained court records this week detailing the suspected gunman’s background and how he became the step-son of Jessica Ikner.

The campus shooting last week claimed the lives of former Leon High assistant football coach Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba of Greenville, South Carolina.

Chabba’s is expected to be laid to rest Friday.
