ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – Albany State University (ASU) is preparing to turn the page to a new chapter in leadership as Interim President Dr. Lawrence Drake II shared his farewell with the campus community today.

Dr. Drake, who stepped into the role in June 2024, has served as a guiding force during a transitional period for the university. He assumed the position following the departure of former president Marion Ross Fedrick in February 2024.

ASU commemorated Dr. Drake’s leadership and contributions with a heartfelt farewell message shared on its official Facebook page. The message reflected on his commitment to the university and the impact he made during his tenure.

As ASU looks to the future, the University System of Georgia has announced that Dr. Robert Scott will take the reins as the university’s next president, effective May 1st.

The campus community now looks ahead with optimism and gratitude, welcoming a new era under Dr. Scott’s leadership while honoring the service and dedication of Dr. Drake.
