ATLANTA, GA.(WALB) -The Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed three new measles cases in a metro Atlanta family.
None of the family members was vaccinated, and they recently traveled out of the country, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
They were not contagious during travel, but state officials are now tracking down anyone who may have been exposed after they came home and developed symptoms.
Measles spreads easily through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes and can linger in a room for up to two hours.
Symptoms start with high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes, followed by a red rash that starts on the head and moves down. Doctors recommend getting the MMR vaccine for children.
Anyone with possible measles symptoms should call their doctor before going in for treatment.
Georgia has had five measles cases this year compared to 10 cases last year.
