DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - On December 8, 1823, South Georgia’s Decatur County was officially created.
The county was named after Stephen Decatur, a Navy officer who served in the War of 1812.
Decatur County is one of Georgia’s biggest counties, spanning nearly 600 square miles. The city of Bainbridge serves as the county seat with three other incorporated towns in the county.
