TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - The third suspect wanted in connection with a Tifton homicide investigation has turned himself in, according to the Tift County Sheriff’s Office.

Derrick Lamar Britt Jr. turned himself in at the Tift County Sheriff’s Office at around 8:50 a.m. on Aug. 17, after authorities previously issued warrants for his arrest in connection with the death of 36-year-old Josh Gillis.

Gillis was found dead inside a burning vehicle near the intersection of Arnold Road and Branch Road in Tifton on July 24. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) later determined Gillis died from apparent gunshot wounds.

Britt is now facing multiple charges, including:

  • Malice murder
  • Felony murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Second-degree arson
  • Conspiracy to commit a felony
  • Abandonment of a dead body
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
  • Possession or transportation of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Probation violation

The charges listed by authorities include both murder counts and firearm-related charges.

Two other suspects, Robert Louis Brown, 41, and Aiyah Foster, 25, were previously arrested in connection with the investigation. Brown faces multiple charges, including malice murder, felony murder, conspiracy, arson and aggravated assault.

Foster faces charges including conspiracy, tampering with evidence, improper disposal of human remains and second-degree arson.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities have said the case will ultimately be turned over to the Tift County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution once the investigation is complete.
