Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Several teenage suspects were identified in multiple attempted car break-ins around the Lake Park neighborhood, the Albany Police Department (APD) announced Monday, April 13.

Police said the suspects are between the ages of 13 and 16. APD did not provide the exact number of suspects connected to the break-ins.

APD said that the break-in incidents took place over the last two weeks, with many of them being from March 30 to April 4, which was Spring Break for many schools in the Albany area.

APD’s Chief Michael Persley encouraged parents to talk with their children if they notice them with items they did not buy.

“We are also telling our community members that if your children come home with items that you did not purchase or for them, or they are associated with individuals who are or have been involved in criminal activity, then we kindly ask you to question what they’re doing,” Persley said. “Intercede on their part before they become involved in a bad situation. You know, we got 13 to 16-year-olds out here who should have been doing something way more productive than walking around in the middle of the night, breaking into people’s cars.”

Persley confirmed that while charges are still being finalized, entering autos and criminal trespassing will be some of the charges filed against the suspects.
