SWANNANOA, N.C. (WLOS) — Daniel Rueda has lived in Swannanoa working in the construction industry for 19 years.
He owned seven mobile homes along the Swannanoa River in Swannanoa. Now, all of them are gone.
“I was living here,” Rueda said as he pointed to the dirt. “My daughter lived here, and my daughter-in-law lived here. I’ve been trying to find a house for rent but everything is expensive now and you can’t find it.”
Rueda and his wife Paulina, who works as a housekeeper, their children and extended family are now homeless. The family is now currently living in the basement of Iglesia La Casa del Alfarero, their church.
As Rueda works to find the family a permanent home, a neighbor who lives down the street about a half-mile away is also trying to help.

“There’s about ten thousand dollars in there right now,” said Martin Riggs.
Riggs is talking about the GoFundMe fundraiser that he is doing to try and help the Rueda family and other families who lived in the mobile home park.
Riggs flips houses and has taken it upon himself to rent heavy equipment to help his neighbors clear debris.
He is hoping to reach his goal of $20,000 on the GoFundMe page to help the Ruedas and the 25 families "less than a block" from his house who, he says, "are homeless and lost at least most of their belongings.”

Rueda and his entire family say they appreciate Martin Rigg’s help. Daniel Rueda is focused on staying strong for his family as they focus on trying to find a place to live.
It’s been a few weeks since this happened,” said 12-year-old Conner Rueda, Daniel’s son. “I’m feeling alright but the first time that we got here with my mom, I saw her cry and then I got a little sentimental and then started crying.
The family has lost all of their possessions and is hoping that the kindness of strangers will help them raise funds to find a place to live.
They have created this GoFundMe page but for the foreseeable future have shelter in the basement of their church.
