Description
TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - Downtown Tifton is turning into a winter wonderland this weekend as the City of Tifton hosts free ice skating for families, just in time for Good News Friday and the city’s monthly Second Saturday celebration.
The temporary ice rink is set up in the Commerce Way Public Parking Lot, between First Street and Third Street, giving residents a chance to enjoy a winter tradition without the cost.
Skating is free and open to the public:
• Friday (Good News Friday): 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
City leaders say the event is part of a larger effort to bring people downtown while supporting local shops and restaurants.
Abbey McLaren, Director of Main Street, says
" This is a fun way for downtown to strengthen our local community. It strengthens connections, meets in the heart of downtown. We’re excited about bringing some foot traffic in through our exciting event."
Second Saturday is designed to encourage families to explore Downtown Tifton, shop local, and spend time together in a fun, welcoming environment. Organizers say the ice rink adds an interactive experience that makes downtown feel more lively and festive.
Families who stopped by Friday evening say the rink gives kids a chance to try something new and create memories close to home — without having to travel or spend extra money.
City officials also say events like this help boost foot traffic for nearby businesses while providing residents with something positive to enjoy.
The ice rink will remain open through Saturday afternoon, welcoming skaters of all ages.
