ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Coach Smith reached his 500th career victory milestone and was honored during tonight’s basketball game.

Smith clinched his 500th win in December after defeating an undefeated Carver Columbus team. The coach was recognized during tonight’s game for the achievement.

Smith has now surpassed the win total of his mentor, legendary head coach Willie Boston, for whom the Boston Garden is named. Smith credited Boston as instrumental to his success.

The team has started this season with strong performances. Smith continues to pursue a state championship, which would add to his career accomplishments.

Smith’s current record stands at more than 500 wins. The team appears positioned for a potential deep playoff run this season.
