ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Sherwood Christian Academy hired Brannan Anthony as its new boys basketball coach earlier this week.

Anthony led Byne Christian to a 22-5 record last season, the Saints’ most wins in a season in at least 20 years. He returns to Sherwood, where he played from 2007 to 2010 and graduated in 2010.

“I’m just excited to get back home,” Anthony said. “Sherwood is where I grew up. Went here, class of 2010. And when I got the call and the opportunity came about, just excited to get back in here. And there’s special things happening here. So I want to be a part of that with the basketball program and try to build something special.”

Anthony began his coaching career as an assistant coach and later worked with three college programs: Kennesaw State, Northwest Florida State and the University of Montevallo. He also served as a leader and contributor to the Albany Basketball Club.

“The special thing about this place wasn’t the buildings. It was the people inside of them,” Anthony said. “And then there’s a lot of familiar faces. A lot of people that were here when I was growing up are still around, which is really cool. But a lot of nice people as well that I’m meeting now and will continue to meet and try to make an impact on all the kids as well. So that’s the main goal.”
