Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The sentencing for a mother who was convicted for the March 2024 fatal stabbing of her boyfriend was continued today, April 4, in court.
In February, Jenna Colley was found guilty of:
- Felony murder
- Malice murder
- Aggravated assault - family violence
- Possession of a cutting tool during the commission of a crime
On Monday, April 4, Colley’s attorney requested that Dougherty County Superior Court Judge Denise Marshall sentence Colley according to Georgia’s Survivor Justice Act (SJA-HB 582).
SJA-HB 582 went into effect on July 1, 2025. It requests that the court sentence survivors of domestic abuse under a reduced sentencing structure. For those who provide evidence that the abuse occurred and played a role in the offense. This is used in hopes of getting defendants a lesser sentence.
Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards told WALB he doesn’t feel it would be appropriate to apply SJA-HB 582 to Colley’s case.
As of now, a court reporter is preparing testimony from the trial for the defense to use as part of their argument for sentencing at a later date.
