ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A 16-year-old was reportedly shot in the chest in the early hours of Monday, April 6, according to the Albany Police Department (APD). Officials say the teen is in critical condition.

The shooting incident was in the 900 block of Holloway Avenue at about 3:30 a.m., APD said.

Police said that the shooting appears to have been random.

APD said a friend of the teen waved officers down from Dorsett Avenue to report that the minor had been shot in the chest.

No further details have been released at this time.

This incident came just hours after another Albany shooting Sunday night, APD said. An 11:30 p.m. shooting on Cochran Drive left one man dead.

APD Investigator, Kawaski Barnes, spoke on the tragedies of both shootings in a Media Monday briefing.

“Albany is home for me too,” Barnes said. “I have the same concerns as those citizens out in the community because I have loved ones here. So we ask for the public’s assistance because without the public, we can’t do what we do at a high level.”

Barnes said many of the city’s shootings occur in residential neighborhoods. He asks if neighbors see any suspicious activities to alert the police department before situations escalate.

“Small things lead to bigger things. Contact us so we can come out and maybe get ahead of those incidents,” he said.

Officials said the investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information can anonymously assist police by calling CrimeStoppers at 229-436-TIPS.
