Description
TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Kate Phillips, a senior at Tiftarea Academy, maintains a 3.9 GPA while competing in multiple sports throughout the school year.
The multi-sport athlete serves as captain of the cheer squad and recently finished the cross country season. Phillips is now preparing for basketball season before moving to soccer in the spring.
“So, I’m a captain of our cheer squad this year. I’m on the cross country team, and we just finished up our season last week. Now I’m getting into basketball for the winter, and then in the spring, I’ll start soccer,” Phillips said.
Phillips has played varsity basketball since eighth grade. As the point guard and lone senior on the Tiftarea squad, she leads younger teammates.
“It’s definitely hard because I really am the only upperclassman, but I just try to lead my teammates. It’s super fun because I get to hang out with a bunch of other girls that I might not see during the school day. It’s just really fun and so enjoyable,” Phillips said.
Phillips balances multiple sports with community service and church activities while maintaining near-perfect grades. She was also named homecoming queen for Tiftarea Academy.
“Homecoming queen was really fun. I was on homecoming court five years including eighth grade and won queen this year, so that was like super exciting and just a great experience overall. I was so thankful and just felt super blessed and loved. It was awesome,” Phillips said.
Congratulations to Kate Phillips for being recognized as this week’s Valdosta State Scholar Athlete!
