SOUTH GEORGIA, (WALB) - A rare G4 geomagnetic solar storm put on a dazzling light show across South Georgia Tuesday night, and residents were quick to capture the moment.
Scientists say the sun is near the peak of its current 11-year cycle which sparks the solar activity.
Viewers flooded social media with stunning photos of the Aurora Borealis, visible much farther south than usual. Shades of red, purple, and green painted the night sky a sight many in the region had never witnessed before.
