ELLAVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - A man arrested in Florida last month has been extradited to Schley County to face charges including grooming of a minor for a sexual offense.

According to the Schley County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), Mayra Palmerin was arrested by the Hialeah Gardens Police Department on Dec. 23, 2025, on seven felony warrants out of Schley County.

On Jan. 4, 2026, Sheriff Nelson and Captain Streetman went to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, Florida and took Palmerin back to Schley County.

Palmerin faces multiple felony charges including one count of grooming of a minor for a sexual offense, one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of party to a crime.

“We will not tolerate this behavior against our children, and we will always protect the innocence of our youth,” Sheriff Nelson said.

SCSO thanked the Hialeah Gardens Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) for their assistance with the case.
