Description
NASHVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - The Nashville Police Department (NPD) giving the community a first look at a new high-tech training tool designed to improve officer decision-making and strengthen public safety.
Nashville police will host a press conference and live demonstration today at 11:00 a.m., at the Nashville Community Center, after being selected as a 2025 Taskforce Santa recipient by VirTra, a national police training technology company. Out of more than 140 law enforcement agencies nationwide, Nashville PD was chosen to receive a VirTra V-100 portable training simulator, making it one of only a few departments in Georgia with access to the system.

The simulator allows officers to train in realistic, high-stress scenarios that focus on judgment, communication, and de-escalation, without taking officers off shift or requiring travel. Department leaders say the technology allows for more frequent and practical training while keeping officers available for patrol.
Police officials say the simulator benefits the community by helping officers practice responding to real-life situations, reducing the risk of unnecessary use of force, and improving interactions between officers and residents. Because the system is grant-funded and portable, the training comes at no cost to local taxpayers.
The demonstration also highlights how small, rural police departments can gain access to advanced training tools while continuing to focus on community-oriented policing.

The event includes a live demonstration of the simulator, with officials expected to explain how often it will be used and how scenarios are tailored to reflect real calls officers respond to in Nashville.
WALB’s Taylor Lewis will have more on how this training could impact community safety, coming up.
