Horne Pecan Company, located in Americus, was featured on this week’s Restaurant Report. They got a perfect score of 100 on their food service inspection on Thursday, June 18.

“It makes me so proud,” said Kimberly Folmar, who helps lead the family-owned business. “We like to get 100 on everything… We have an amazing team that is always wanting to exceed expectations.”

Folmar brings more than three decades of healthcare experience to the operation, including years in nursing leadership—experience she says translates well to the world of inspections and high standards. “I have been a nurse for 31 years,” she said. “I am quite used to inspections, being from the healthcare side.”

A family farm roots the business, with Folmar explaining that her father has been growing pecans for more than 50 years. But in recent years, the family looked for ways to diversify. That’s where coffee came in.

“We landed on marrying coffee with pecans and creating a niche opportunity for our local community to enjoy a gourmet pecan coffee,” Folmar said. “And it has just rebranded our entire family, to be honest.”

Today, the business includes multiple locations, including a warehouse operation closer to the farm and a coffee shop in downtown Americus. The shop recently moved into a larger space at the Windsor Hotel, and the former spot is now used as a retail gift shop—helping expand its corporate gifting options.

“To get our first unannounced inspection and have 100 is amazing,” Folmar said.

“To get our first unannounced inspection and have 100 is amazing.”

Folmar credited the business’s staff—many of whom have become “part of the family”—for helping maintain consistency across locations. “We really invest in them as people and in their family lives,” she said. “They adopt [the brand] pretty well right out the gate.”

Along with its signature pecan-themed offerings (and plenty of debate over whether it’s “pecan” or “puh-kahn”), Horne Pecan Company has expanded its menu with espresso drinks and new breakfast options.

“Now that we’ve got our larger space, we have invested in espresso drinks,” Folmar said, adding that the team enjoys customizing drinks for customers. The shop has also added hot breakfast items like croissant sandwiches, along with pastries including pecan pie, cinnamon rolls, and muffins.

Looking ahead, Folmar said growth is possible, with an emphasis on being intentional about expansion while continuing to build the online and corporate gifting side of the business.

“We ship all over the United States,” she said. “It’s kind of like… a concierge service for gifts.”

For now, Folmar said the focus remains on serving the community, welcoming visitors, and keeping standards high—one inspection at a time.
