WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCIV) — Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, angered by Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett calling her "child" during a House Oversight Committee meeting, asked the Texas representative if she wanted to “take it outside” Tuesday during the heated exchange.
The meeting, which was used to approve the rules for the House panel and introduce new members, fell into chaos as Crockett took exception to Mace's push to bar transgender people from using public bathrooms that match their gender identity in federal buildings. Crockett, who represents Texas' 30th Congressional District, alleged Mace's aims were at raising campaign money more than legislating.
“I can see that somebody’s campaign coffers are struggling right now,” Crockett said. "So she’s gonna keep saying trans, trans, trans, so that people will feel threatened. And child, listen. – "
At that point, an infuriated Mace chimed in.
“I am no child!" Mace yelled. "Do not call me a child!” the South Carolina Republican fired back. “I am no child. Don’t even start. I am a grown woman."

Rep. Maxwell Alejandro, a Democrat from Florida, wanted to strike Mace's "take it outside" comment from the record. However, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, refused to do so, claiming Mace's remarks weren't meant to solicit a fight.
“What the gentlelady said that could mean we can go outside and have a cup of coffee, or maybe a beer," Comer said. "We have lots of conversations outside."
Following the exchange, Crockett posted the video on social media, stating it was proof of the difference between Democrats and Republicans.
"I introduced an amendment to reinstate the Oversight Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties," Crockett said. "My Republican colleague threatened to physically fight me about it."
Mace, who represents South Carolina's coastal First Congressional District, also took to social media to make her defense.
"I am no child," Mace wrote. "I have broken more glass ceilings than this woman could ever imagine. She’s out of her league and not cut out for this."
Mace also reiterated her onslaught of comments regarding transgender people remains about "women's boundaries and safety."
Crockett then offered one final retort to the entire exchange in a lengthy social media post, where she described Mace as an attention seeker only out to fundraise by politicizing issues.
"She’s an attention seeking loser who clearly has some fundraising goals to hit," Crockett wrote in the post. "Republicans incite violence from the highest levels of government & ALSO claim to be the party of law & order. The two cannot be true! Do yourself a favor, decide to require better of your electeds. Last I checked, threatening members in a committee room doesn’t exactly reduce the cost of eggs."

Mace maintains her "take it outside" comment was referring to having a conversation in the hallway and not anything else.
"There’s been a lot of speculation about my intentions during a heated exchange on women’s rights earlier today on Oversight," Mace said. "Let me be clear: I wanted to take the conversation off the floor to have a more constructive conversation, not to fight. At no point was there any intention of causing harm to anyone."
