TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - A mother tells WALB her daughters were suspended from Tift County High School for getting into a fight with students she says bully and harass her children and others constantly.
The mother of two of the students involved in this fight tells WALB that her child along with her child’s friends have been bullied and harassed constantly by the other students involved in this fight and she says things have gotten so out of hand that her child has been followed home and the bullies have even threatened her life.
“All of this could’ve been avoided. I had to bail my daughter out of jail yesterday because she stood there and defended herself,” said Kimberly Mack.
According to Mack, her daughter and her friends have been harassed for months by the bullies and it all came to a head during the school fight. This mom says her daughter was attacked by two girls in the hallway…. that’s when the victim’s sister jumped in to try and break it up but they started fighting her too.
“I feel angry, I’m sad. I’m hurt and I feel as if the system failed us. From day one for months now, we have been reporting the same kids bullying them and it resulted in my daughters getting hurt,” she said.
Another parent told WALB that the bullying got so bad for her daughter that she wanted to enroll her in an online school.
“I’ve been to the school probably 5 times about the same girls. The school system, they tell us the same thing and whatever they tell us, it’s the opposite. They tell us they will solve the problem but they never do and the next week I’m back at the school dealing with the same problem,” said Angela Howard, parent of another student being bullied.
All of the students involved in the fight were arrested and suspended. Mack feels the punishment is unfair and says the school system failed to protect her children.
“Neither of our kids should be held to the torture stake at this point because they did everything that we as parents advised them to do. For them to take the higher road and still get punished to this degree, it’s not fair at all they got hurt and kicked out of school,” said Howard.
WALB reached out to Tift County Schools for a statement on this issue and by the deadline today I have not heard back from them.
