DOUGHERY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Renovations on Dougherty County’s only halfway house for women are underway today, April 5. This comes just two months after the county commission approved the property to serve as a women’s sober house called Motif.
The Motif house and the accompanying property were given to the organization’s founders by an anonymous donor. The house is on Cordele Road and is over 100 years old. The property has not been occupied for several years. On Saturday afternoon, volunteers from around the community began renovations on the facility.
“We have been just so blessed from the very start,” said the president of Motif, Mo Taylor. “Everybody has been so supportive. Today, we have friends and family here, members of the recovery community, people from our work, from our church. They are just all here to support us and help us get this underway.”
Motif’s founders said the renovations would cost around $75,000, so they are trying to limit costs by doing the bulk of the work themselves.
