TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - Tifton Police have provided an update in the investigation of the recovery of a fetus from a dumpster of an apartment complex on Thursday morning.
According to a release from police, at around 6 a.m., EMS responded to Brookfield Mews Apartments for an unconscious woman who was bleeding.
When they arrived, it was determined that the woman had suffered a miscarriage earlier. She was immediately transported to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment.
During the response, police said a witness reported that earlier the mother had placed the fetus in a bag and placed the bag inside the dumpster.
At this time, no charges have been filed, according to police.
This is an active investigation and the remains will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab.
Authorities are awaiting the autopsy results and conducting interviews to determine the appropriate course of action.
