ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dougherty County took another step towards bringing a convention center and hotel to Downtown Albany.
In Monday’s meeting, the Dougherty County commissioners voted to approve a feasibility study for the project. City officials say the study would find the best location and size for the new convention, exhibition, and conference center.
“The thought process was hire someone with the skill set who can make that determination and report back to our CVB board and then we will bring it back to the commissions on both the city and county side,” said Dougherty County Administrator Deron King.
A Chicago-based company, Johnson Consulting, will spearhead the feasibility study which will cost $70,000. The cost will be split evenly between the city, Dougherty County, and the Albany Convention and Visitor Bureau (CVB). All three have approved the study, and the CVB will decide on a timeline during their meeting on Thursday.
