CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Protestors gathered in downtown Charleston Saturday to protest the Trump administration in the Lowcountry's second 50501 national day of action protest.
The 50501 movement has organized protests since early in February. Their initial day of action demanded 50 protests in 50 states as part of their one movement - thus the 50501 moniker.
Over 500 people gathered at the last 50501 national day of action protest in Charleston's Hampton Park on March 4, the day President Trump delivered his joint address to Congress.
Earlier in April, thousands turned out in Summerville to join nationwide "Hands Off!" protests, a campaign organized by the nonprofit Indivisible.

The protests come amidst a myriad of controversies for President Trump and his team as they face mounting public outcry over their policies. The Trump administration has drawn ire over the economy, immigration, the utilization of Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency, and what protestors see as attacks on minorities and veterans after the gutting of federal DEI initiatives and Veterans Affairs cuts.
