MACON, Ga. (WPGA) - Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Georgia) called on Rep. Mike Collins (R-Georgia) to answer allegations about connections to white supremacists during an appearance in Macon on Thursday.

“The State of Georgia rejects hatred, the state of Georgia rejects bigotry, the state of Georgia rejects racism, the state of Georgia rejects hatred,” Sen. Ossoff said.

Collins, a Republican representing Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, is facing accusations that he has ties to white supremacists, including a former staffer.

“Now this morning thanks to the reporting in The Washington Post we’ve seen yet another member of the congressman’s staff this time with swastikas and a costume of the Klan,” Ossoff said.

A spokesperson for Collins said the person has no affiliation with the campaign.

“The posts are vile, completely unhinged, and Mike Collins unequivocally condemns them,” the spokesperson said.

Collins has also criticized Ossoff’s record.

“Jon Ossoff should answer for why he supported ending cash bail why he supported open borders. Why he supported these radical anti-Israel extremists,” said Rep. Collins.

In Macon, Ossoff called for Collins to release documents showing any communications the campaign may have had with the accused white supremacists.

“He’s a sitting member of Congress asking Georgia voters to give him a 6-year term in the United States Senate who refuses to release his own offices communications with white supremacists. It’s disqualifying,” Ossoff said.

Collins and Ossoff are set to meet for a live debate on Oct. 8.
