ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A DeKalb County police officer was stabbed early Monday and the suspect was shot, the department said.

Officers were responding to a suspicious person along the 2900 block of North Decatur Avenue at DeKalb Industrial Way. That’s when they said the suspect stabbed the officer once.

The officer shot the suspect and he is in critical condition. Police initially said the suspect had died, but then corrected that information.

The officer was taken to the hospital with a “moderate injury” and is stable, they said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been requested by DeKalb police to investigate the shooting.
