Cook County, Ga. (WALB) - Candy paint an sky high wheel stands are coming to Cook County. The Southeast Gasser Association will be racing at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP).
Gassers are some of the earliest purpose-built racecars. Many feature raised front ends and altered wheel basis. These cars were designed out of a need for more traction when accelerating as fast as possible down a dragstrip.
Racing begins on Friday, March 21 at 5 p.m. and will continue through Saturday, March 22. Qualifying begins at 1p.m on Saturday.
There is a spectator entry fee of $20 for adults on Friday, and on Saturday the entry will cost $25. A weekend pass is $35, and kids 10-years-old and under enter for free.
The Southeast Gasser Association is excited to be in Cook County. The organization believes the track at SGMP could provide a racing surface that will allow racers to break records. The race will feature 70′s period gasser race cars of various classes including, A/Gas, B/Gas, C/Gas, Super stock, H/Gas, and A/FX.
The race will also feature a two day swap meet for those looking for parts to finish there project cars.
