MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — A new aviation terminal is coming to Middle Georgia Regional Airport.
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the HighNote Aviation terminal on Monday, Macon Bibb Mayor Lester Miller said the gateway will bring growth and opportunity to the county.
The former executive terminal was demolished to make way for a new building inspired by Macon-Bibb's musical heritage.
Early designs show it will be shaped like a guitar with angles resembling a piano. It will also have a restaurant, conference room, event lawn, and extra community space for visitors.

Miller explained that the new terminal will stimulate economic growth and, in turn, benefit residents.
"We have 91 planes housed in Macon-Bibb County right now. A lot of these companies pay several hundred dollars in taxes to house their planes here that are worth anywhere from $20 to $30 million on some of those, so a total of $158 million in value," Mayor Miller said. "That place about $1.6 million for the students at our schools and also the Macon-Bibb County government, but also allows us to keep our taxes low for our citizens here."
