Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue as a cut-off low remains to our west. This will send plenty of moisture out of the Gulf into South Georgia, aiding shower development throughout Mother’s Day. This excess of rainfall could lead to areas of flash flooding, which is why a Flood Watch is in place across SGA through Monday afternoon. Severe weather remains a concern outside of flooding as the Storm Prediction Center has placed a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) across the region on Mother’s Day. This includes the chance for damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado. Stay alert and keep that First Alert Weather App handy.
As the low begins to weaken next week, more heavy bands of rainfall and severe weather are possible in SGA through Monday. By Tuesday, the low will weaken enough that rain chances fall and clear skies start to return by the afternoon. Excessive rainfall will remain a concern as rainfall totals can reach upward of 3 inches in some areas.
High pressure takes over by Wednesday and stops all rainfall across the region. This will keep us bright and dry through the rest of the week. However, westerly winds will usher in much warmer temperatures. Highs will be in the hot and humid 90s by the end of the week.
